The Drobo B1200i can hold up to 36 TB of raw storage in 12 SAS or SATA drives, according to the company, and includes Drobo’s BeyondRAID technology, which allows users to leverage different drive capacities. The appliance also includes automated data-aware tiering that can leverage traditional hard drives for storage and move frequently-used data onto higher-speed solid-state storage. Users can also set up new volumes of up to 16 TB that pull storage from a pool of disks, instead of a single physical storage device, the company said.
The appliance also uses Drobo Dashboard to manage the device and handle copying functions.
The unit can handle up to 12 drives, and is compatible with Mac OS X Server, Windows Server 2003 & 2008, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware vSphere 4.1x and Citrix XenServer 5.6, according to Drobo.
